There were people who thought that the Hawks could finally reach their full potential with Murray on board.
He had done amazing things in San Antonio so people figured he could do the same for the Hawks, which is a team that fits him even better.

Sure enough, Murray has done tremendously in Atlanta so far.
He is averaging 20.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 6.1 assists a game for the 2022-23 season.
On Wednesday night, Murray scored a team-high 30 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists against the Dallas Mavericks.
This was his 4th 30-point game this season, which proves that he has found an NBA home that suits him perfectly.
When Murray joined the Hawks, fans were excited at the prospect of him playing alongside Trae Young.
While Young hasn’t achieved what he wanted so far this year, Murray certainly has.
In fact, some are now saying that perhaps he is the future of the team, not Young.
Murray is a two-way player who is able to produce on both ends of the court and he helps the Hawks be far more competitive.
But the team is still not at the place they wish to be.
They are currently 8th in the East with a 23-22 record.
That means that they have a long way to go if they wish to generate a lot of noise in the postseason.
If the Hawks don’t have an impressive playoff run this year then there will be calls for them to change the roster.
They will then have to decide if Murray really is the future of the team.
