The Atlanta Hawks are in prime position to blow up their roster as they currently sit in 10th in the Eastern Conference with a sub-.500 record.
The Hawks made an aggressive move to trade for Dejounte Murray last offseason to jumpstart the team, but the former All-Star hasn’t quite lived up to expectations.
Murray has had a solid season from a box score perspective, but his impact hasn’t translated to many wins for an Atlanta team that looks like they should reset the roster.
Murray has been one of the hottest names during the NBA trade deadline and has been heavily linked to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Like the Hawks, the Lakers have been largely underwhelming during the 2023-24 NBA season and have targeted Murray as a player who they believe can help them turn things around.
D’Angelo Russell reportedly would be the player going back in a potential Murray deal and the Atlanta fans let their feelings about the Los Angeles guard be known via Dave McMenamin of ESPN.

For weeks, the reports have pegged Russell as the centerpiece going back to the Hawks for Murray though the latter has thus far resisted taking him back.
A third team would need to get involved to get the trade done, but so far no one has offered to take back Russell.
Both Atlanta and Los Angeles need to make a move to stay competitive this season, though they could also hold tight and resume talks in the offseason.
