Because of the Atlanta Hawks’ poor record during the 2023-24 NBA season, it seems that star guard Trae Young has become underrated in league circles.
Young has always been a polarizing player because of his lack of defensive ability, but there’s no denying the kind of offensive talent he has.
In the modern NBA, teams need a lead guard that can hit open shots and be a playmaker for others and Young is doing it at an elite level this season.
Young is having an excellent year averaging 27.3 points and 10.9 assists per game, almost single-handedly driving the Hawks’ offense.
Although he hasn’t won a championship yet, Young deserves to be mentioned in the conversation for best players in the NBA.
Recently, Young competed in his 400th regular-season game and even he was surprised with where he ranks on the all-time leaderboards for assists and scoring averages, via his personal Twitter account.
“Hate talking stats nowadays.. but being amongst some of my idols & GREATS is! I know my Grandpa looking down on me smiling.. knowing we far from finished,” Young tweeted.

Young is fourth overall in career assist average and is 11th overall for points per game.
The point guard is known for his outside shooting, but his passing is arguably his greatest attribute as he has a knack for generating open shots for teammates.
Surpassing players like Magic Johnson and John Stockton seems nearly impossible, though there’s a chance Young can move past Oscar Robertson for third.
Scoring is also going to be tough to move up from, but regardless, Young has proven he’s one of the best stars in today’s game.
