The 2023-24 NBA regular season has been disappointing for the Atlanta Hawks, with the team failing to show any improvement from last season, even with Quin Snyder leading the charge as the team’s head coach.
It seems like more of the same from the Hawks, even though the team has some talented young players like Dejounte Murray, Kobe Bufkin, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Jalen Johnson, and Trae Young.
Despite what seems to be a talented roster of players with a bright future, the team hasn’t been able to live up to expectations, as Atlanta is currently seven games under .500 at 32-39 but remains in contention for the Play-In Tournament while sitting in 10th place in the Eastern Conference.
As if things weren’t bad enough for the Hawks this season, the team has been without their best player, as Young deals with a finger injury, but it appears he’s “making progress” in his recovery, according to David Aldridge of The Athletic.
Per Hawks, Trae Young is "making progress" from torn ligament in his left finger that required surgery late last month. He will begin small finger motion exercises this week.

Although Young seems to be on the right track in his recovery from surgery on his injured finger, Aldridge doesn’t comment on whether the superstar guard will be able to return to the basketball floor for the Hawks this season.
If the Hawks can manage to sneak into the Play-In Tournament, the team will desperately need Young back in the fold to contend with the competition in order to punch their ticket to the NBA playoffs.
Even though the Hawks are almost certainly destined for a first-round exit or a loss in the Play-In Tournament, Atlanta likely wants a chance to prove their worth before the season ends.
