The Atlanta Hawks haven’t become a dominant team in the Eastern Conference as fans had hoped.
When they signed Dejounte Murray, people expected big things from the Hawks but they are still the tenth seed in the Eastern Conference.
Because of that, there have been rumors of the team trading Murray away in the near future.
But Marc Stein is reporting, via NBACentral, that rival teams actually believe that Atlanta “could potentially choose to keep Dejounte Murray rather than Trae Young during this offseason.”
Apparently, the Hawks are toying with the idea of trading Young because there “appears to be a true market forming” around the guard “for really the first time in his six seasons as a Hawk.”

Young has been the most prominent part of the Hawks since coming to the team in 2018.
Since then, he has averaged 25.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 9.5 assists.
Even though Young is putting up 27.1 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 10.8 assists per game, the Hawks are still having a hard time breaking through the pack in the East.
It’s obvious that something in Atlanta will change soon but the idea of Young leaving is a bit surprising.
However, if the Hawks have a robust market for the guard and are able to get someone substantial in return for him, they’d be wise to pursue it.
Young is a very talented young guard but perhaps the Hawks need a massive shakeup to really reach their potential.
Additionally, Young wants to play for a team that actually has a chance of winning a championship too, so he’d likely be open to the idea of leaving the Hawks.
If Atlanta does contemplate the idea of shipping Young out, a bunch of teams would jump at the chance to sign him.
This move could create a massive bidding war.
