The Atlanta Hawks are barely hanging onto their eighth seed in the East right now with an even 27-27 record.
That is not the level they wanted to be at this season, especially after the major addition of Dejounte Murray during the summer.
That means that the Hawks could make some substantial changes to the roster within the next few days.
But they might not part ways with one particular star.
“As of Sunday night, multiple league sources say the Hawks value Collins significantly and that they would only part with him for a team they think puts them in another tier in the Eastern Conference.”

NBA writer Tony Jones says that the Hawks are holding tight to John Collins.
Jones reports that the Hawks significantly value Collins and would only give him up in a deal for assets they think puts them in another, higher tier in the Eastern Conference.
It sounds like there is very little chance of Collins leaving the team right now.
Fans of the Hawks have loved him since he joined during his rookie year in the 2017-18 season.
He quickly became one of the most important players for the team, averaging more than 21 points and 10 rebounds a game.
That’s a far cry from where he’s at now: Collins is averaging 13.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.3 assists.
Yet, he is still considered a pivotal part of the team and its future.
Even though the Hawks want to keep Collins, there might be other changes they commit to.
We don’t know if these changes will come before Thursday or if the Hawks will attempt to ride out the rest of the season with the roster they have now.
One thing is clear: the Hawks expected more from themselves and are willing to pursue the changes necessary to make that happen.
But it seems like none of those changes will include Collins.
