The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made sure to keep Baker Mayfield around, as they should.
The former No. 1 pick got his payday, signing a three-year deal worth $115 million to stay put at Raymond James Stadium.
Some think it was a bit of a bargain deal, as Mayfield had all the leverage because there were multiple teams keeping tabs on him.
Nonetheless, former star WR Keyshawn Johnson believes it’s just a matter of time before he gets even more money.
Talking on Undisputed, Johnson raved about his fellow No. 1 selection, stating that he deserved every single penny of that deal with the way he played last season.
“He deserves every single penny and then some,” Johnson said.

Then, he also predicted that Mayfield would never see the three years of his deal.
Johnson explains that if Mayfield balls out, the Buccaneers will have no choice but to sign him to a contract extension and bring him back to market value, as he’s just 29 years old and will still have plenty of football left in him by the end of his three-year deal.
The player-turned-analyst believes Mayfield will have all the leverage again by the time he’s in the second year of his contract, and he has a valid point right there.
It’s been a tough and wild ride for Mayfield in the league.
He might not be able to live up to the expectations that come with being the first-overall pick, but it’s nice to see that he was able to salvage his career and prove that he belongs in the National Football League.
