Some big changes are coming for the Charlotte Hornets and it could greatly impact the future of the team.
On Monday morning, Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Hornets President of Basketball Operations Mitch Kupchak is stepping down to become an “organizational advisor.”
As noted by Wojnarowski, this move is “clearing the way” for Hornets owners Rick Schnall and Gabe Plotkin to hire a replacement before the end of the regular season.

Until a replacement is found, Kupchak will stay on board and remain in his day-to-day role.
Schnall and Plotkin have held a majority interest in the team since August when Michael Jordan sold his majority stake in the franchise.
Since then, they have gotten to work and are attempting to make some substantial modifications to the infrastructure of the Hornets.
They have recently made several roster changes, such as sending away Terry Rozier, P.J. Washington, and Gordon Hayward.
The front office is heavily focusing on players like LaMelo Ball and rookie forward Brandon Miller.
Beyond trades, the Hornets are putting nearly $300 million into arena renovations and are also building a new practice facility.
All of this comes as the Hornets remain one of the worst teams in the Eastern Conference, currently with an 11-41 record and the 13th seed.
They have been meandering toward the bottom of the standings for several years now and they want to change that.
That means that whoever takes over for Kupchak will be working closely with Schnall, Plotkin, and the rest of the front office to pave a pathway to a promising future for the team.
