The Cleveland Cavaliers may have gotten a generational talent in Evan Mobley.
Back in college, the talented big man drew comparisons to former and current legends of the game, such as Kevin Garnett, Chris Bosh, and Anthony Davis.
And, while his offensive role with the Cavs hasn’t allowed him to live up to those expectations — at least number-wise — he’s shown glimpses of greatness on both ends of the floor since day one.
That was again at a full display during Wednesday’s close game vs. the Phoenix Suns.
The Cavs were missing Darius Garland, and the defense focused on an attacking Donovan Mitchell.
There, Mobley made the most of the wide-open shot he got to give his team the game-winning bucket, which wasn’t much of a surprise for coach JB Bickerstaff:
“Check his track record. He’s hit big shots in fourth quarters for us since he got here,” Bickerstaff said postgame. Made big plays in the fourth quarter. He’s got the winning gene. That’s why he’s impacted winning from day one. Tonight, obviously was a tough one. First game back against a really good defensive team. Made it tough on us. But I’ve thought again, if you have the courage to take that shot and the ability to knock it down, it’s huge.”
Mitchell was also ecstatic after watching his teammate knock down that beautiful jump shot, taking to Twitter to shout him out.

Mobley is still quite young, so there’s a chance his offense will catch up to his defense at some point in the near future.
If that happens, then it could be over for the rest of the league.
That kid is special.
