Fewer teams have been more surprising in the NBA this year than the Indiana Pacers.
With a record of 9-8, the Pacers are significantly outpacing their 2022 record of 25-57, which has been a delight for their fans.
One of the biggest reasons for their success is the star-level play that Tyrese Haliburton has achieved out of the gates.
As Adrian Wojnarowski has pointed out in a recent tweet, Haliburton’s numbers in November were only outpaced by Michael Jordan and LeBron James.
Historic November for Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton, per ESPN Stats and Info/@StatsWilliams
•28.6 PPG
•11.7 APG
•53% FG
•47% 3-pt FG
Only Michael Jordan (March 1989) and LeBron James (February 2017 and 2018) ever averaged 25 and 10 with 50 and 40 percent shooting in month.— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) December 1, 2023
Haliburton finds himself in good company with these numbers in mind.
He is just the third player in NBA history to average at least 25 points and ten assists while shooting at least 50% from the field and 40% from the three-point line.
When looking at his stats for the entire year thus far, Haliburton has the 11th-most PPG this season and is leading the league in assists.
His November was impressive, but the fact that he is among the league leaders in points and assists is another thing entirely.
Because of Haliburton’s success, his teammates are building from this, a prime reason the Pacers have a winning record to this point in the year.
Fans will anxiously await to see if Haliburton and the Pacers can sustain this level of play throughout the year.
Things haven’t been favorable for this organization in recent history, so if they can make the playoffs this season, it will be seen as a massive win.
Excitement is brewing in Indianapolis, and with them hosting the All-Star Game this year, it seems likely that their hometown hero will partake in the festivities.
