The Portland Trail Blazers positively smoked the Houston Rockets on Sunday night but it was really a one-man show.
Damian Lillard of the Blazers was red hot all night and went on a tear, landing 22-of-38 from the field, 13-of-22 from the three-point line, and all of his free throws.
For the night, he had 71 points.
As you can imagine, that makes him a considerable part of NBA history.

In fact, as Shams Charania reported, Lillard’s 71 makes him the eighth player in league history to score 70 points or more in a game.
Seeing anyone score that many points is a sight to behold but seeing it come from Lillard isn’t too huge a surprise when you consider just how great he is.
Lillard has a career average of 25.1 points a game, but he has been reaching new heights in 2022-23.
He is currently putting up 32.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game.
He has also been scoring a 47.2% field goal percentage.
Lillard’s 71-point game was noticed by all NBA fans – and the league itself.
The Blazers keep showing some signs of greatness, even though they are still the 11th team in the West and vying for a spot in the play-in tournament.
Even if they don’t make it that far this year, there is no doubt that Lillard is experiencing one of the best seasons of his career.
He is not only the best player on his team, but he is now a part of league history.
