When the dynamic duo of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving left the Brooklyn Nets last season, many expected Ben Simmons to finally step up his game and become a leader of the organization.
However, Simmons missed the majority of the 2022-23 NBA season due to an injury.
Following a lengthy recovery, the expectations were once again at an all-time high for Simmons in the 2023-24 NBA season.
But history has repeated itself as Simmons has played just 11 games for the Nets this season due to injury troubles.
Simmons is currently healthy and available for the Nets, as he played a minor role in the Nets’ Saturday night win over the San Antonio Spurs.
Following the win, Simmons sent a clear message about his road to being his past self via Michael Scotto on Twitter.
“The storm doesn’t last forever. I’m going to get back to where I was,” Simmons said.

Simmons made an analogy about the storm never lasting forever, hinting that he would get back to his previous form sooner or later.
While most want to see Simmons reach that form again, if the past few seasons are any indication, Simmons is seemingly out of his prime.
Simmons has played a combined 53 seasons in the last three seasons, and even during the games he was available for the team, the former number-one overall pick didn’t average excellent numbers.
This season, Simmons has averaged just 7.0 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game for the Nets.
While Simmons’ rebounds and assists per game are fine, he certainly needs to amplify his points per game to help the Brooklyn Nets reach the playoffs.
