The Seattle Seahawks moved on from longtime head coach Pete Carroll just days ago, and on Wednesday, they found their next head coach by hiring Mike Macdonald.
Macdonald had served as the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens over the last two seasons under John Harbaugh, and in 2021 he was the University of Michigan’s defensive coordinator under Jim Harbaugh.
He sent Seahawks fans a message and let them know he’s excited for the new season this fall, per the Seahawks’ official Twitter account.
“Shoutout to the 12s out there, man,” he said. “Excited for the fall, can’t wait for Lumen to be rocking and rolling.”

By going from Carroll to Macdonald, Seattle has gone from having the NFL’s oldest head coach at age 72 to its youngest at age 36.
The team made the playoffs last season behind an unexpectedly strong season from quarterback Geno Smith, but in 2023, despite again finishing 9-8, they had to watch the playoffs from home.
Macdonald will get to work with a solid wide receiver duo in DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, a promising young running back in Kenneth Walker III, and a rookie Pro Bowler in cornerback Devon Witherspoon.
However, the NFC West will get more competitive next season, as the Los Angeles Rams won seven of their last eight regular-season games and have some young studs, including wide receiver Puka Nacua and nose tackle Kobie Turner.
The rest of the conference should also be tougher — the Green Bay Packers seem to be on the rise, and the Minnesota Vikings could return to the playoffs if they figure out their quarterback situation.
But right now, optimism seems to be the key feeling for the Seahawks and their fans.
