The Seahawks Have Their Sights Set On 2023

The Seattle Seahawks look like a team ready to concede their 2022 season and gear up for the 2023 season.

While some might object to that statement, the moves they’ve made speak loud and clear about their plans.

First, they sent Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos, which netted the team multiple first and second-round picks.

The trade also got them several players from the Broncos, which includes quarterback Drew Lock.

After the trade, the team then let Bobby Wagner go, a key player on the Seahawks’ defense over the years.

These are the first moves that have signaled that Seattle is looking towards 2023.

2022 NFL Draft Moves Show Seattle Is Planning For 2023

Seahawks fans were looking for their team to draft a quarterback to at least help the team in 2022.

I just hope that the @Seahawks will draft a good quarterback. Even if not in the first round. https://t.co/rtPfbR5g7Y

However, the team didn’t draft a quarterback at any point in the draft.

With chances at quarterbacks like Matt Corral and Malik Willis, the team instead used their picks on Boye Mafe, Kenneth Walker III, and Abraham Lucas.

They are clearly rebuilding in other areas first, as the 2023 NFL Draft promises to have the best quarterback class.

But to get in a suitable spot to draft a quarterback next year, they need to fail this season.

That’s why it seems like Seattle is gearing up for that top pick and a new quarterback next season.

However, there’s more going on in Seattle that should prepare Seahawks fans for even more bad news.

DK Metcalf Is Still Without A Contract Extension

Pete Carroll has been hopeful for a new deal with the Seahawks and wide receiver DK Metcalf.

Speaking at OTAs, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said of absent WR DK Metcalf: "These are crucial weeks to get something done." speaking of a extension.

He also understands the weeks around OTAs to get an extension done were crucial.

However, a full month later and Metcalf is no closer to a new extension deal.

That could be worrisome for fans who love the young receiver.

While there’s no new deal, it’s been said how the young star receiver is happy with Seattle and it would take a lot to get him out of Seattle.

But could Seattle decide to move on, even if their receiver wants to stay with the team but for more money?

While it doesn’t seem likely, something else might point that’s just as horrible might become a reality one day.

Seahawks For Sale In The Future?

While reports of the Seattle Seahawks have been denied by Jody Allen, she left some room for speculation of a sale of the team in the future.

Been so busy I missed Jody Allen's statement until I saw it on IG today. She hinted she may keep the #Seahawks for 10+
years before eventually selling as part of Paul Allen's estate dismantling.

Her statement of the estate of former owner Paul Allen possibly taking 10 to 20 years to wind down has left people to speculate of a selling of the team one day.

However, if this is a future plan, devaluing the team now is a bad idea for any potential selling of the Seahawks.

With everything that’s going on with the Seahawks, maybe she doesn’t have her all into the team.

Without that needed passion, the team will continue to suffer.

It’s also the strongest indicator that Seattle is looking toward 2023 this year.
