The Oakland Athletics had been actively shopping former Gold Glove catcher Sean Murphy in order to open up a spot for top prospect Shea Langeliers.
Yesterday, they managed to do just that, sending Murphy to the Atlanta Braves in a three-team deal that also included the Milwaukee Brewers.
Oakland acquired catcher Manny Pina from Milwaukee, while the Brewers acquired William Contreras from Atlanta.
But the A’s were able to haul in a hefty number of prospects from both the Braves and Brewers.
On Twitter, MLB Network posted a list of top prospects that the A’s had landed in the Murphy deal.

A’s Load Up On Prospects
Oakland acquired outfield prospect Esteury Ruiz from the Brewers.
Ruiz was the Brewers’ No. 8 prospect.
During the regular season, he posted a .974 OPS.
Oakland also landed a pair of pitching prospects from the Braves.
Left-hander Kyle Muller was Atlanta’s top pitching prospect.
In 23 starts, the young lefty posted a 3.41 ERA.
Right-hander Freddy Tarnok was the No. 6 prospect within the Braves pipeline.
Tarnok had a 4.05 ERA in 23 starts.
So while Murphy is gone, the Athletics have landed a solid number of top prospects to help build for the future.
Granted, the A’s may not stay in Oakland for much longer, given the recent series of events.
But even if they end up in Las Vegas, they do have plenty of top prospects who may soon be ready for the Major Leagues.
Oakland went 60-102 and finished at the bottom of the American League West in 2022 after four straight winning seasons from 2018-21.
