The Oakland Athletics have always been a team that does not spend money.
That is what has made it so difficult for them to be successful.
Many of the best teams around the league can buy the top players.
Well, the A’s are one team that cannot.
That is why A’s GM Billy Beane created the “Moneyball” strategy.
They found a way to buy runs instead of buying players.
Which was a strategy that made them successful for a while.
But over the past few years, they have reverted to being one of the worst teams in baseball.
As the season comes to a close, the A’s are hosting the Detroit Tigers and Miguel Cabrera.
It will be the final time Cabrera comes to Oakland in this career.
So, the A’s decided to get him a bottle of wine as a retirement gift.
Who did it better?

That is a $90 bottle of wine, per Codify Baseball.
Many fans are making fun of the A’s for going cheap on the gift.
But it was not something the A’s needed to do.
Showing Cabrera his respect as he finishes his career was a nice gesture.
Oakland has a 46-107 record on the year.
There needs to be a serious overhaul of this team.
One thing that would help create more revenue is if they move to Las Vegas.
It has been talked about and that may be the only way for the A’s to become relevant again.
