MLB is preparing to move the Oakland Athletics to Las Vegas sometime in the next five years.
After a few seasons in Kansas City, the A’s have been in Oakland since 1968, and won four World Series titles.
However, citing low attendance and interest from fans, Commissioner Rob Manfred is leading a movement to take the Athletics to Las Vegas, as authorities and the organization try to finish the plans and funding for a new stadium on the Las Vegas strip.
Most fans, not only in Oakland but in America as a whole, have advocated against the relocation and instead are urging A’s owner John Fisher to sell the team.
The whole country has been debating the issue for months.
The city of Oakland, however, is moving the masses and working on putting some pressure on MLB to reconsider the relocation.
“The Oakland City Council UNANIMOUSLY passed their resolution affirming that the A’s belong in Oakland. Shows Mayor, City Council, Port, and local labor all united and ready to play ball with MLB. Rarely get this many entities in lockstep like that. The fans packed the chambers,” Casey Pratt from ABC 7 News Bay Area tweeted.

It’s unclear if this effort will move the needle and force MLB to reconsider, but it at least projects the whole city’s burning desire to keep watching the Oakland Athletics and not the Las Vegas Athletics, or any hypothetical name they could use.
There are still many episodes and seasons to this ongoing series of events, so stay tuned.
