The Oakland Athletics made a key move to add some much-needed power to their lineup, signing veteran slugger Jesus Aguilar to a one-year deal.
Oakland had traded catcher Sean Murphy, but had added some key pieces in Manny Pina, Jace Peterson, Aledmys Diaz, Shintaro Fujinami, Trevor May, and Drew Rucinski.
Aguilar split time with the Miami Marlins and Baltimore in 2022, hitting .235 with 16 home runs and 51 RBI.
He also had a slugging percentage of .379 and an on-base percentage of .281.
On Twitter, Bob Nightengale of USA Today revealed the financial terms of the slugger’s new contract.

Aguilar will earn $3 million with the A’s in 2023.
The 32-year-old has spent the vast majority of his career with the Milwaukee Brewers.
He entered the league with the Cleveland Guardians in 2014.
Aguilar has also spent time with the Tampa Bay Rays, having been dealt there from Milwaukee at the trade deadline in 2019.
He signed a deal with the Marlins the following offseason.
His best season came in 2018, when he hit for career highs in home runs and RBI.
That year, Aguilar was a key piece on a strong Brewers team that reached the NLCS for the first time since 2011.
Milwaukee fell short against the Los Angeles Dodgers in seven games.
The veteran slugger could potentially bring some power to a very depleted A’s lineup and also could serve as a veteran voice and mentor in a younger clubhouse.
Oakland finished with the second-worst record in all of baseball, losing a grand total of 102 games during the regular season after four consecutive winning seasons.
