The Philadelphia Phillies struck gold on Monday afternoon when they officially signed star shortstop Trea Turner to an 11-year, $300 million contract.
Now all of a sudden, the defending National League champions look prepared to make yet another run to the World Series in 2023.
The 29-year-old joins a team with a lineup that already includes Bryce Harper, J.T. Realmuto, Nick Castellanos, Rhys Hoskins, and Kyle Schwarber.
After declining Jean Segura‘s option, the Phillies made it clear that a shortstop was their priority.
Now, having landed Turner, their lineup grows even stronger.

Phillies Boast Stacked Lineup
Now that Turner is in the fold, it’s hard to bet against the Phillies in 2023.
The veteran slugger hit for a .298 average and crushed 21 home runs, driving in a total of 100 runs.
With Turner manning the shortstop position, the defending NL champs can now shift Bryson Stott over to second base.
From top to bottom, the Phillies may in fact boast the best lineup in all of baseball.
Betting against that would be ill-advised.
Philadelphia won 87 games during the regular season and snuck into the postseason as the third Wild Card team in the National League.
There, they ran right through the St. Louis Cardinals in the first round, took down the Atlanta Braves in the NLDS, and outlasted the San Diego Padres in the NLCS to reach the Fall Classic for the first time since 2009.
Another trip to the World Series could be on the horizon.
