After winning 107 games and an NL West title back in 2021, the San Francisco Giants were unable to follow that up this season.
Instead of returning to the postseason, San Francisco fell flat and finished at .500, 30 games back of the division champs, the Los Angeles Dodgers.
But president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi is making some changes within the front office in order to help the Giants get back to where they were.
Last night, it was announced that the Giants would be hiring Pete Putila as their new general manager to replace the departing Scott Harris, who is headed for the Detroit Tigers.

Giants Hire New GM
Putila is currently the assistant General Manager for the Houston Astros, serving under James Click, but this could be the start of some big front office changes for the Giants.
Putila is obviously familiar with working for a team that has been a perennial World Series contender, so he can bring some of that experience to San Francisco to help them start the process of building the next great Giants team.
2022 was a letdown for the Giants after their surprise run in 2021.
But Putila could help usher in a new era of Giants baseball.
Perhaps we can expect to see Putila and Zaidi go big for potential free agents.
Bay Area native Aaron Judge could be one that they target.
But perhaps a new perspective in the front office can help the Giants take the next step to becoming a World Series contender again.
Putila might just be the right guy to help get San Francisco back on track in 2023.
We’ll see what he and Zaidi’s plans are for the offseason.
