Somehow, some way, the San Francisco Giants are still alive in the Wild Card race, though they probably won’t be for much longer.
A loss and a Philadelphia Phillies win would eliminate them from postseason contention, and that could come as soon as tonight.
However, there is still a slight chance, as the Phillies have fallen on hard times, as evidenced by being swept by the Chicago Cubs.
The Milwaukee Brewers have inched closer to the Phils, but missed a chance to take a Wild Card lead last night.
The Giants are still 5.5 back, but a win last night put them back at the .500 mark and kept their dwindling playoff hopes alive.
Giants win 6-4. They are 78-78 and not drawing dead yet. For you optimists and probability wonks out there, their exact playoff odds are 1 in 36,400. https://t.co/9Y9jAv2jXG

Giants’ Path To October
As seen in the tweet, the Giants playoff odds are not good by any stretch of the imagination.
It could all be over tonight.
In order to make it into the postseason, they would need to win the rest of their games and hope that the Brewers lose all the rest of theirs, while the Phillies go 1-6 at best.
If the Giants finish tied with the Phillies, then they would get the final Wild Card spot based on the fact that they won the season series with Philadelphia.
The Giants split the season series with the Brewers, so other factors, such as intradivision records would be needed to determine that tiebreaker.
To put it simply, the Giants need a lot of help to get into the postseason for the second straight year.
There isn’t much reason to be optimistic, but you can still hope for the best if you’re a Giants fan.
As Yogi Berra once said, “it ain’t over ’till it’s over.”
It is still possible, just unlikely.
