The Philadelphia Phillies followed up their surprise run to the World Series with a big offseason, headlined by the blockbuster signing of shortstop Trea Turner.
The 29-year-old was one of the top free agents on the market this offseason and signed relatively quickly, joining the Phillies on an 11-year, $300 million deal.
Now, the defending National League champions look prepared to do some damage in 2023 and defend their crown, with the hope of finishing the job in the Fall Classic this time around.
The signing of Turner was certainly the highlight of the Phillies’ offseason.
Former MLB star Mike Lowell commented on the move and discussed why he thinks Turner is set for a big year.
With his power, speed and swagger, prepare for Trea Turner to come up huge for the @Phillies this season 💪@mikelowell25 | #MLBTonight pic.twitter.com/es3vEbNhif

Lowell talked about the fact that former NL MVP Bryce Harper is going to be out for quite some time as he recovers from Tommy John surgery.
Surprisingly, the Phillies played better baseball when he was on the injured list, but the team will miss that presence in the lineup.
Lowell pointed out that Turner could very well be a key piece for the Phils, and is somebody that they may look to in order to keep the team above water and pick up the slack while Harper is out.
The former World Series MVP then talked about what Turner brings to the table, discussing his power, his speed, and his defense as key attributes.
Lowell finished off his spiel by talking about Turner’s swagger and jokingly saying that he hopes to one day have the same swagger the star shortstop does.
But he predicted that fans in Philadelphia are going to love him.
