The offseason is in full swing and teams are making key additions to their roster before the 2023 season.
Starting pitching is in high demand right now.
Carlos Rodon remains the top pitcher on the free agent market, but many have predicted that he will be the next one off the board.
One team that could use Rodon’s services are the St. Louis Cardinals, who are in search of pitchers who can provide strikeouts.
The veteran left-hander would fit their needs quite well.
However, it doesn’t appear that the team is going to target any more high-profile free agents, at least not on the pitching market.
On Twitter, a Cardinals analyst called out the front office for not targeting Rodon and instead seemingly opting to find another pitcher of the same caliber as many of their other starters.
So the Cardinals are trying to add the type of name that they have like eight of, interesting https://t.co/ToxPckmMmb

Cards Won’t Target Rodon
In the screenshot of the article by Katie Woo of The Athletic, Noah Syndergaard, Jordan Lyles, and former Cardinal Michael Wacha were listed as potential options.
Syndergaard won’t be possible at this point, as the veteran right-hander recently signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and it seems unlikely that they will target Nathan Eovaldi.
The Cardinals starting rotation is not bad by any stretch, featuring names such as Adam Wainwright, Miles Mikolas, Jordan Montgomery, Steven Matz, and Jack Flaherty.
However, the team lacks a true ace, and Matz and Flaherty are both going to have several question marks surrounding them in spring training.
Ultimately, it appears that St. Louis won’t be in the running for either Rodon or Eovaldi, and will opt for somebody cheaper.
