This afternoon, fans of the St. Louis Cardinals received some sad news.
Dan McLaughlin, the team’s play-by-play announcer since 2000, and Bally Sports Midwest have mutually agreed to part ways.
This comes just over a week after McLaughlin was arrested and charged with his third DWI.
The 48-year-old had been arrested in November of 2010 and again in September of 2011.
On December 4, two reports had been made to local police of a suspicious vehicle failing to maintain a single lane.
Police followed the car off of Interstate 270 and initiated a traffic stop in the St. Louis suburb of Creve Coeur.
McLaughlin was subsequently arrested and charged.

Cards Broadcaster Out By “Mutual Decision”
This is sad news.
McLaughlin is a beloved figure in the St. Louis community, having taken part in local charity events such as golf classics and fundraisers.
The longtime Cardinals broadcaster also has a local sports radio show called “Scoops With Danny Mac.”
The radio show may be in jeopardy as well.
In addition to his role as the Cardinals broadcaster, he also served as the play-by-play announcer for the St. Louis Blues and the St. Louis University Billikens basketball team.
Over the years, McLaughlin had the pleasure of witnessing several Cardinals greats such as Albert Pujols, Scott Rolen, Yadier Molina, Jim Edmonds, Adam Wainwright, Matt Holliday, and others.
Following his arrest, McLaughlin deleted his Twitter account.
At this time, the Cardinals and Bally Sports Midwest have not named a replacement.
Former Cardinals pitcher Ricky Horton, who currently serves as an announcer for the team’s radio station KMOX, could make his return to television broadcasts in 2023.
We can only hope that McLaughlin gets the help he needs moving forward.
gonna miss Danny Mac a lot. Like losing Jack and Mike. Will it ever be the same again? Loved them all.
