Heading into this offseason, safety Xavier McKinney was viewed by many as one of the top safeties who was going to be available in free agency.
McKinney wound up signing a four-year contract with the Green Bay Packers worth almost $70 million.
Recently, the talented safety revealed part of the reason why he decided to sign with the Packers while also casually taking a shot at his former team, the New York Giants (via Matt Schneidman on Twitter).
Xavier McKinney says Jordan Love played a “big factor” in him joining the Packers.

McKinney revealed that Jordan Love currently being Green Bay’s starting quarterback was a “big factor” in him deciding to sign with the franchise this offseason.
The new Packers safety described Love as an “elite quarterback” and that’s what he believes a team needs in order to have success in the NFL.
These comments are certainly interesting, considering the team McKinney played for before signing with Green Bay this year.
During the last four years, the talented safety was a member of the Giants, and just about everyone is aware that their current starting quarterback, Daniel Jones, is not exactly what one would describe as an elite signal-caller.
One could definitely come away from McKinney’s recent comments about Love as him taking a shot at Jones.
While it’s not necessarily a deliberate shot, Green Bay’s new safety seemed to make it pretty clear that his former team was lacking a bit when it came to the quarterback position.
Unfortunately, Jones probably won’t be able to get any sort of revenge on McKinney next season as the Packers and Giants won’t face each other in 2024 unless they meet in the playoffs.
