The Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals are currently not in the same stage or direction.
The Cubs are in a weird middle ground between spending to go for it and waiting for their prospect to develop and contribute.
The Cardinals, on the other hand, are the reigning NL Central champions and bonafide contenders.
They need to capitalize on Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado‘s primes, and they are both over 30.
The time, for them, is now.
There is a historical rivalry between the two franchises, one that goes back decades.
However, a former Cubs’ star may be willing to consider playing for the Cardinals, and St. Louis may be willing to give him an offer depending on the market and other circumstances.
Contreras Is The Perfect Replacement For Molina
With Yadier Molina retiring, the Cards are looking to fill the catcher position with a talented performer.
Andrew Knizer is unlikely to be the internal answer, so the organization may be forced to go to the market.
Can they bring in Willson Contreras, a 2016 World Series champion with the Cubs?
MLB Network is sure exploring the possibility.
“Some big shoes to fill behind the dish in St. Louis: How would Willson Contreras look in Cardinal Red?,” they tweeted, with a defensive alignment of the Cards that includes him.

The hypothetical scenario obviously yielded positive results from the fans.
That potential team looks good, particularly the infield.
Contreras could give them another middle-of-the-order bat besides Arenado and Goldschmidt.
He just hit .243/.349/.466 with 22 home runs and had a 132 wRC+, a rock-solid mark for a catcher and a well-above average number for a hitter, generally speaking.
He is 30, he is talented, and he is ready to join a contender: could Contreras consider the Cards?
Why wouldn’t he?
