The expectations for Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs were very high when he started the season.
And although his team has floundered in the Western Conference, there is no doubt that Wembanyama is an incredible talent and a very likely choice for this season’s Rookie of the Year.
As noted by StatMuse, Wembanyama is now the very first rookie in NBA history with 150+ blocks and 75+ threes in a season.
That’s a wildly impressive accomplishment made even more remarkable by the fact that he still has 27 games left in the regular season.

When people spoke about Wembanyama before the draft, they called him a generational talent and someone who could change the league forever.
But they also warned that it would take time before he was living up to his full potential.
So far, he has averaged 20.5 points and 10 rebounds in his rookie year.
He has also led the league in blocks, with an average of 3.2 per game.
Wembanyama has been an unquestionably amazing young talent and there is still plenty of room for him to grow, which means he will likely only get better in the seasons ahead.
As for his Spurs, the team is struggling to even reach contention for this season’s Play-In Tournament.
They are the worst team in their conference and only have an 11-44 record.
So while Wembanyama might not be making the postseason this time, he could next year if the front office makes some changes and adds more talent around him.
That gives him a whole year to keep improving and preparing for the competition in the playoffs.
How much growth will the young French star have accomplished at that point?
