Tommy Edman might just be the most underrated player in all of baseball.
The St. Louis Cardinals super utilityman can play all over the field, making the super utility title pretty self-explanatory.
He began the year as the Cards second baseman, but after the demotion of Paul DeJong and ascension of Nolan Gorman, Edman has slid over to the shortstop position.
Regardless, Edman has remained a viable part of the Cardinals lineup and has been one of the best defensive players in all of baseball.
In fact, according to SIS Baseball on Twitter, Edman is actually leading all of baseball in Defensive Runs Saved.

An Elite Defender
As mentioned in the tweet, Edman is a guy who very seldom makes a mistake.
The Cardinals can essentially put him anywhere on the field and he’ll provide them with some Gold Glove caliber defense.
He was one of five Cardinals to win a Gold Glove Award last season.
He’s one of the key factors in why the Cardinals are the best defensive team in all of baseball.
He, Paul Goldschmidt, and Nolan Arenado are always making tough plays.
They make the tough plays look routine and barely break a sweat when they make those plays.
But Edman is criminally underrated and is easily one of the most fundamentally sound players in the entire league.
He’s also a consistent hitter with a decent amount of pop.
He’s just a catalyst for the Cardinals all the way around.
He can get on base to start a rally and can make a ton of great plays on defense, while rarely ever making any mistakes.
Edman is making a strong case for yet another Gold Glove.
