The Kansas City Royals have a special prospect, a true game-changing talent.
Shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. was recently crowned by MLB Pipeline as the league’s best prospect, over Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman and other young players of note, like Seattle Mariners’ outfielder Julio Rodriguez.
Witt is a natural shortstop and has enough glove to stay there, but the position is currently held by Adalberto Mondesi.
That pushed Witt to third base, a position he is fully capable of handling defensively, and one he will have every chance to win during camp.
He just reminded us all about his incredible offensive talent with his latest spring training home run, one that earned him a shoutout from perhaps the most popular athlete in Kansas City: Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Mahomes quoted a tweet by Bally Sports Kansas City with a video of Witt’s dinger, a truly majestic blast that almost leaves the spring training complex.

He Is Starting To Earn His Respect
It’s obvious that Witt’s talent is not going unnoticed around the city, so it was pretty cool to see Mahomes, an accomplished star at his sport, recognize the youngster’s skills.
Witt has a real shot at competing for the American League Rookie of the Year award, that is if the Royals don’t mess with his service time and let him go through his slumps.
Last season, across two minor league levels (Double-A and Triple-A), Witt hit 33 home runs and stole 29 bases.
He is a future star, and is already gaining fans in Kansas City and the country as a whole.
The Royals’ hopes for the future rest on his shoulders, and that’s no exaggeration.
He is definitely one to watch.
