Zack Greinke Trying To Relive His Glory Days

Zack Greinke has been an extremely successful MLB pitcher.

So far, he has a 3.41 career ERA with 2,809 strikeouts: if he managed to pitch for the next two seasons, he has a shot at 3,000 punchouts, and not many hurlers can claim they have had that many.

He is 38, and has had impressive seasons everywhere he has pitched, including his first (and new!) team: the Kansas City Royals.

He is pitching in Kansas City, where it all started, in 2022.

Not only he will be serving as an MLB pitcher: he will also be a role model for the Jackson Kowars, Kris Bubic, Daniel Lynchs, and Brady Singers of the world.

Those young prospects will try to absorb as much knowledge from Greinke as they can, because he is a master of pitching.

Besides his role as a leader and veteran in the clubhouse, Greinke will try to show he can still pitch,

In fact, we are betting he would love to revive some of his glory days: he was a dominant force as recently as 2019, and since he doesn’t really rely on fastball velocity, it’s not impossible to see him get that ERA in the mid-to-high 3.00s in 2022.

Last year, he had a 4.16 ERA in 171 frames.

He Had A Historic Season In 2009

However, what he did in 2009 was truly remarkable.

That year, he won the Cy Young award with some pretty impressive numbers.

The 2.16 ERA was excellent, as were the 242 strikeouts.

Is it likely that Greinke returns to those levels?

Not at all, but he could be very, very good.

In 2019, he pitched 208.2 innings of a 2.93 ERA.

An ERA between 3.50 and 4.00 should be more than enough to please Royals’ fans eager to watch him in action.
