The Kansas City Royals are a team that is known for not spending a lot of money.
They consistently have one of the lowest payrolls in baseball and rarely pay up for any of their players.
But, sometimes there is a once-in-a-generation player that comes around and deserves his money.
That player is Bobby Witt Jr.
The Royals selected Witt with the second overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft.
He has developed into one of the best players in baseball and the face of the Royals franchise.
That is why the team felt so comfortable giving Witt the largest contract in franchise history.
Witt agreed to an 11-year, $288.7 million deal with the Royals on Monday.
After only playing two MLB seasons, the Royals felt confident in handing out this contract.
Witt went to Twitter to post his thoughts following this massive extension.
“I am incredibly grateful to the Sherman family and the Royals front office for believing in me, and I promise to do everything in my power to help bring championship baseball back to Kansas City! Let’s go!!” he tweeted.

While the Royals still have a lot of work to do with their roster until they are competitive, this is a good start.
Witt should be the cornerstone of their team and someone they can build around.
Last season, he was one of the most electrifying players in baseball.
He hit 30 home runs while stealing 49 bases.
Also, he led baseball in triples with 11.
Even on one of the worst teams in baseball, Witt was able to finish seventh in MVP voting.
He will only be 24 years old during the upcoming season and he has a bright future ahead of him as he tries to bring the Royals back to relevancy.
