Football fans and experts questioned the Los Angeles Rams‘ approach to building a championship roster.
It’s like they gave away their future after giving up a 2021 third-rounder, a 2022 first-rounder, and a 2023 first-rounder for quarterback Matthew Stafford.
If that’s not enough, they also gave up their second and third-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft to get Super Bowl 50 MVP Von Miller.
While their ability to build through the draft is crippled, they had the last laugh after winning Super Bowl LVI over the Cincinnati Bengals.
That victory also helped head coach Sean McVay erase the bitter memory of losing Super Bowl LIII, wherein his high-powered offense scored only three points against the New England Patriots.
Likewise, no one’s questioning general manager Les Snead now, especially after signing wide receiver Allen Robinson II and All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner this offseason.
The Rams know they have a fantastic think tank in McVay and Snead.
Therefore, as The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue shared, retaining them for a while is a no-brainer.
A Rams goal this offseason has been to get Sean McVay and Les Snead extensions announced by season-opener. McVay confirmed in August that his is done, and I’ve heard Snead’s is extremely close. If there ever was a day to announce expected multi-year alignment, this would be it.

Rams Maximizing Their Championship Window
While they are at the top of the football world, the Rams know that their current championship window won’t last forever.
That’s why they are retaining the key figures to make the most of their chances.
Retaining McVay and Snead will help continue the decisions and strategies that helped them become champions.
Aside from them, they also gave contract extensions to quarterback Matthew Stafford and reigning Offensive Player of the Year Cooper Kupp.
They also delayed Aaron Donald‘s retirement by adding more money to his current contract.
Those players and personnel will give the Rams a fighting chance for more Super Bowls in the coming seasons.
