The New York Giants were one of the most talked-about teams in the early stages of free agency.
The fans weren’t happy to see that they let both Xavier McKinney and Saquon Barkley walk away.
Nonetheless, as big a blow as that was, it’s not like they didn’t make enough moves to compensate for their losses.
As a matter of fact, NFL insider Peter Schrager believes they’re the biggest winners of the first day of free agency.
Talking on Good Morning Football, Schrager argued that as much as the fans could and should complain over Barkley and McKinney, running back and safety aren’t valuable positions when it comes to roster-building.
“I got an obvious winner. A team that picked up a 25-year old pass rusher and got maybe the best guy that was even on the market,” Schrager said.
"The @Giants had the best first day of free agency. They won the day."

He raved about the fact that they were able to land a star pass rusher like Brian Burns, who’s just 25 years old, and they signed him to a long-term extension.
He also praised Joe Schoen for revamping their ever-struggling offensive line with a versatile payer like Jermaine Eluemunor, who can play multiple positions, and a durable guy like Jon Runyan, who has never missed a game in his career.
Of course, landing Burns and pairing him with another young star in Kayvon Thibodeaux is a massive win for Brian Daboll’s defense.
And while Devin Singletary is no Saquon Barkley, he’s far cheaper, more durable, and is coming off a breakout season with the Houston Texans, not to mention the fact that he’ll play behind a much better offensive line now.
As crazy as it may seem, the Giants may have, indeed, won the first day of free agency.
