Patrick Mahomes has many different attributes that make him a fantastic quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs.
He is incredibly mobile, his arm is one of the best in the entire league, and he has many physical traits that have led to his success thus far.
However, despite Mahomes’ abilities, there is one area of his game that is slightly lacking.
Speed.

Yesterday, Madden released an update for Mahomes, upgrading his speed to 94 overall.
In this video game, if a player is given 90 speed or more, generally, they are one of the quicker players in the game.
Mahomes is certainly in the top half of NFL quarterbacks in terms of mobility, but he isn’t necessarily quick.
His 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine was 4.8 seconds, which was the fourth-best time among quarterbacks at the 2017 combine.
After seeing the news yesterday, Mecole Hardman, one of the Chiefs’ receivers, took to Twitter to react to Mahomes’ speed rating.
For context, Hardman ran a 4.33 40-yard dash, which makes him one of the fastest receivers in the league.
Mahomes light-heartedly challenged Hardman to a race, trying to prove his speed is worth a rating of 94.
All jokes aside, speed is a metric that is often used for wide receivers, running backs, cornerbacks, and other key positions.
Quarterbacks, however, aren’t necessarily tied to the same standard.
In the case of players like Mahomes and Josh Allen, their real threat to opposing teams is more about their athleticism and elusive abilities, not their overall speed.
