The start of the tampering period in NFL free agency was wild, to say the least, on Monday, with a ton of big-name players changing teams and a lot of that movement being at the running back position.
One of the biggest moves was veteran running back Josh Jacobs going from the Las Vegas Raiders to the Green Bay Packers, which is a move that no one saw coming, especially with Aaron Jones still in Green Bay.
Initially, it looked like the Packers created one of the best running back duos in the NFL with Jacobs and Jones set to share the backfield in Green Bay, but that won’t be the case.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, shortly after the news broke about the Packers coming to terms on a deal with Jacobs, Jones will be released and, as a result, is set to become a free agent himself.

Jones is coming off a forgettable 2023 NFL season, as he didn’t make much of an impact with only 656 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns in 11 games for the Packers.
The veteran back also caught 30 passes for 233 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown.
With Jones coming off his worst season since his rookie year in Green Bay, the Packers were able to upgrade the position with the addition of Jacobs, who racked up 1,108 total yards and six total touchdowns.
Although both backs have dealt with their fair share of injuries, Jacobs definitely seems like an upgrade in 2024.
