Trade rumors have begun to heat up.
We’re less than a month away from the August 2 trade deadline, and teams are doing everything they can to put the finishing touches on their roster as they gear up for a stretch run.
The St. Louis Cardinals are going to be a team to watch at the trade deadline as they search for a starting pitcher to fill the void left by Jack Flaherty‘s injury.
But according to Jon Morosi, the Redbirds are looking for more than just a starting pitcher.
On Twitter, Morosi mentioned that the Cards have checked in with the Washington Nationals, among other teams about potential offensive upgrades.

Potential Offensive Upgrades
Obviously, their biggest need is a starting pitcher, but their offense has been pretty quiet over the past few games, with the exception of their 6-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies last night.
They were shut out in back-to-back games over the weekend.
But who might they target for an offensive upgrade?
Well, if we look at the Nationals, they could potentially make a play for a few veterans they have, namely Yadiel Hernandez or Cesar Hernandez.
Though Corey Dickerson had two hits last night, he’s still hitting just .196 on the season and has proven to be a disappointment.
Edmundo Sosa also has been a cautionary tale at the plate.
The Cardinals could potentially look in the American League too.
Perhaps the Texas Rangers would accept a deal for former Cardinal Brad Miller.
Maybe Josh Harrison would be a potential fit as well.
There are a number of different avenues the Cardinals can take here, so it’ll be interesting to see what they end up doing.
A starting pitcher is still at the top of their priority list.
