MLB trade season has officially begun.
The August 2 trade deadline is approaching fast, and this is the point in the season where teams decide what their biggest needs are as October draws nearer.
Other teams who don’t have much of a shot at winning will trade off some of their assets in order to pick up some prospects.
But the trade market is heating up and we have less than a month to go before the deadline.
USA Today’s top MLB insider Bob Nightengale has some intel on a potential top trade target and how his trade value is constantly rising.
Andrew Benintendi of the Kansas City Royals is the target in question, and Nightengale tweeted some of Benintendi’s recent stats.
KC #Royals OF Andrew Benintendi's trade value continues to rise:
Benintendi, who's hitting .316, has seven multi-hit games in his last nine starts, and in the other two games, he still reached base twice.— Bob Nightengale (@BNightengale) July 7, 2022

Benintendi was acquired by the Royals from the Boston Red Sox prior to last season and has not disappointed so far.
Last year, he hit .276 with 17 home runs and 73 RBI.
This season, the power numbers are down quite a bit, as he’s only hit three home runs thus far, but he has a .791 OPS and is hitting .316.
Benintendi would be a welcome addition for any ballclub.
Perhaps the Miami Marlins with their recent surge decide to make a splash and take a shot at reaching the postseason, just as they did in 2020.
They’ve inched closer in the National League Wild Card race and actually have a decent shot at taking one of the Wild Card spots.
The Cleveland Guardians are another interesting possibility.
They haven’t played well recently, but an extra bat in their lineup would help and would show the fanbase that their front office wants to win.
We’ll see where Benintendi ultimately ends up this year at the deadline.
