For the Kansas City Royals, there hasn’t been much excitement outside of rookie sensation Bobby Witt Jr.
But there is a little something to celebrate this week.
Yesterday, veteran right-hander Zack Greinke made the start against the Texas Rangers and delivered when the Royals needed him most, allowing just one run over six innings of work and earning the win.
In fact, it was his 500th career start, and the Royals took to Twitter to congratulate him for it, mentioning that Greinke is the 48th player in baseball history to make 500 or more starts and the only active player in baseball today to do it.
Congratulations to Zack Greinke on making his 500th career start!

Greinke Getting It Done
Greinke may be old and past his prime, but he’s still got what it takes to be a successful pitcher.
He put that on full display on Wednesday afternoon as he led the Royals to a 2-1 home victory.
The fact that he’s made 500 career starts just goes to show how durable he has been over the many years of his career.
This guy came up in 2004 and quickly became the ace of the Royals’ starting staff, that is, until he was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers.
Now he’s back in Kansas City for what could be his final season in the big leagues and he’s still doing what he needs to do when he’s pitching.
He’s 2-4 with a 4.38 ERA thus far in 2022.
He’s one of those guys who has been around a long time and he’s one of the last of his kind.
But he has adapted over his many years in baseball and evolved as a pitcher.
Now, he can celebrate having made 500 career starts and being the only active player in baseball to have done it.
