Ted Simmons was one of the most iconic players to ever wear the St. Louis Cardinals uniform.
He made his Major League debut with the team in 1968 and was a part of the team that won the National League pennant.
Simmons spent the vast majority of his 20-year career with the Cardinals, playing 13 seasons with the team before spending five years with the Milwaukee Brewers and the final few years of his career with the Atlanta Braves.
Nicknamed “Simba,” Simmons was an eight-time All-Star and a Silver Slugger, and he is also a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Today is a special day for the Cardinals legend, as he celebrates his 74th birthday.
On Twitter, the Cardinals wished the legendary catcher a happy birthday.

He also had a career OPS of .785.
Simmons was inducted into the Cardinals Hall of Fame back in 2015.
The Cardinals legend was voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veteran’s Committee in 2020.
A year later, he had his No. 23 retired by the Cardinals, as he joined greats such as Whitey Herzog, Ozzie Smith, Lou Brock, and Bob Gibson as one of the few players to have their numbers retired by the organization.
The legendary catcher was a fan favorite during his time in St. Louis and helped bring great memories for the city and organization.
