On Tuesday, the St. Louis Cardinals will get a key piece back, as shortstop Tommy Edman, who had been away competing with Team Korea in the World Baseball Classic, will be making his return.
Team Korea closed out their schedule by scoring 22 runs against China on Monday.
Unfortunately for them, it was not enough to advance to the quarterfinals.
And so, Edman will return to the Cardinals on Tuesday night.
On Twitter, Cardinals MLB.com beat reporter John Denton provided the news, revealing that the team’s manager Oliver Marmol has a specific plan for the star shortstop.
Marmol plans to slowly integrate Edman back into spring activities while he recovers from the time change.
#STLCards SS Tommy Edman, whose South Korea team failed to advance in WBC pool play, is expected to arrive back in Jupiter tonight, manager Oli Marmol said. He will be slowly integrated back into the team to assist with the time change and long flight back to Florida, per Marmol.

The Cardinals have put their faith in the middle-infield duo of Edman and Brendan Donovan.
The team had 17 players away from spring camp who were competing in the WBC.
Fortunately for the team, they’ll get one of those pieces back tonight.
Tyler O’Neill is still competing with Team Canada, while Adam Wainwright, Miles Mikolas, Paul Goldschmidt, and Nolan Arenado compete with Team USA.
With several players away from camp, the Cardinals have been fortunate to have the chance to see other players, such as Jordan Walker and Masyn Winn, in action for the first time.
Paul DeJong, who may be fighting for his future with the team, is also receiving more opportunities with multiple players gone.
But with Edman back soon, the Cardinals will be getting a reinforcement in short order as they determine what their Opening Day roster will look like.
