Just when things were going so well for the Minnesota Timberwolves, they got hit with some truly troubling news on Thursday morning.
It was announced that Karl-Anthony Towns has suffered a meniscus injury, possibly compromising one of the team’s best players.
Speaking on “First Take,” Brian Windhorst said that there is “reasonable concern” about Towns’ future and that there is a chance that he has to miss some time.

This is a very serious injury and could be a devastating setback for the Timberwolves, who are currently the top seed in the West with a 43-19 record.
Towns is a huge part of why Minnesota has been surging all season long and the loss of him could really harm the team.
At the same time, Windhorst noted that there is a lot of great depth with the Timberwolves and players like Naz Reid could fill the void.
The team has an amazing defense, which means they might still do very well even if Towns misses time.
But they obviously don’t want to be without him, especially as the playoffs get much closer.
For the season, Towns has averaged 22.1 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Along with Anthony Edwards and Rudy Gobert, Towns has helped transform the team into the best it has been in ages.
It has been years since the Timberwolves have made it out of the first round of the playoffs but it felt like this was the season they’d do it.
Losing Towns wouldn’t immediately dash all hopes but it would certainly complicate the picture quite a bit.
Windhorst said that fans will know more about Towns’ status in the next few days.
Until then, the Timberwolves will be waiting, nervously.
