The Minnesota Timberwolves lost Karl-Anthony Towns at the start of March and have been fighting hard without him.
They remain the top seed in the West but with the Denver Nuggets and Oklahoma City Thunder hot on their heels, they want as many wins as possible before the regular season concludes.
On Monday morning, Shams Charania reported that Towns is on the verge of returning to his team right as the playoffs kick off.
“Great news for Karl-Anthony Towns, he participated in his first team scrimmage on Sunday,” Charania said on “Run It Back.”
“There is optimism that Karl-Anthony Towns will play before the playoffs start,” he added.

As Charania said, some people didn’t think that Towns would come back at all this season when he suffered a rather serious knee injury last month.
But he has been working hard to rehabilitate and get back into playing form.
Meanwhile, the Timberwolves have stayed very competitive without Towns, including on Sunday night when they took down the Los Angeles Lakers, 127-117.
They now have a 54-24 record, the same as the Nuggets, and just one game ahead of the Thunder.
That means that they need to continue winning in the days ahead.
They next play the Washington Wizards, Nuggets, Atlanta Hawks, and Phoenix Suns.
Charania didn’t give an exact date for Towns’ return, simply saying he will be back with Minnesota before the postseason begins.
That means he could be suiting up any day now.
Towns has been a crucial part of this impressive team, averaging 22.1 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.
All season long, he has been focused on reaching the playoffs and making a huge impact in the West.
In a few days, he will be back with his team and attempt to show the rest of the NBA what he can do.
