The New York Yankees, at 60-64, are a longshot to make it into the postseason at this point.
They have an ongoing eight-game losing streak, and are open to trying new things.
The veterans are not getting the job done.
That’s why they called up a pair of prospects to take over and see how far they can take them: outfielder Everson Pereira and infielder Oswald Peraza.
Peraza made his MLB debut last season and has been in and out of the roster without getting a long look for a considerable amount of time.
He remains a quality prospect who can offer a little bit of everything: pop, speed, contact, on-base ability, and excellent defense at shortstop.
Pereira, on the other hand, will be making his MLB debut on Tuesday and his arrival is one of the most exciting pieces of news that Yankees fans have gotten in the last couple of weeks (maybe even months, to be fair).
The Yankees welcomed him to The Show with a cool design via Twitter.

He is the face of the Yankees’ youth movement that fans hope will be starting now.
He actually started the season in Double-A, but since he mashed to the tune of a .291/.362/.545 line there, he was promoted to Triple-A.
There, Pereira was even better, hitting .312/.386/.551 and earning a call-up on Monday night.
Between the two levels, Pereira has hit 18 home runs in just 81 games.
His pop is evident, but his ability to get walks and cut his strikeouts will be the elements dictating how successful he will be as a major leaguer.
For the Yankees, bringing him up is the right call: they need to see how he handles big-league pitching to make a decision on his 2024 role.
