Luka Doncic already had a ton of work cut out for him with his Dallas Mavericks.
Even during the offseason, Doncic had so much to do in order to strengthen his body, perfect his game, and improve Dallas’ chances in the season ahead.
So you would understand if he chose to not participate in the EuroBasket competition for his home country of Slovenia.
Wonder why Luka Doncic chooses to spend his NBA offseasons playing hard for Slovenia — stitches in his head, balky wrist, gimpy fingers and all?

But when you see how Slovenian fans rooted for their team during the tournament, it’s easy to see why Doncic agreed to lead his country in the basketball event.
The Slovenian followers at the arena were dancing, singing, and cheering for their squad, who looked on from the floor and cheered back at their supporters.
It was a special, unique moment that really summed up just how special sports are.
It doesn’t matter the language or nationality, sports have a way of bringing people together for a common cause.
Why wouldn’t Doncic want to be a part of that?
The Land Of Luka
Doncic is the most popular Slovenian basketball player of all time.
He’s a young man who still has years ahead in the NBA but he has already done incredible things to raise the profile of his country.
Doncic has repeatedly spoken highly of his people and his nation and is obviously very proud of where he came from.
The chance to make his homeland proud in the EuroBasket competition was the biggest reason why he said yes.
In the end, his team wasn’t able to go all the way following a surprise loss to Poland.
But before that elimination, Doncic was doing exactly what he planned to do: he was showing Slovenians how much he wanted to fight for them.
