Robert Tonyan has had an up-and-down career with the Green Bay Packers.
In 2020, the undrafted tight end from Indiana State became a solid contributor with 586 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Unfortunately, the high hopes for an even better 2021 campaign ended when he tore his ACL in his left knee during their Week 8 game against the Arizona Cardinals.
His season ended after eight games, finishing with only 204 yards and two touchdowns.
Tonyan signed a one-year deal with the Packers, a team that needs him more after Davante Adams was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Packers would like him to play a bigger role in their offense, especially now that they don’t have a legitimate deep threat.
For that reason, he is working to get back in game shape by attending Tight End University.

The Athletic’s David Lombardi tweeted, “Packers TE Robert Tonyan, who tore his ACL last season, was at Tight End U running off on the side. He’s expected to be ready for the 2022 season opener.”
The short clip showed him running in the end zone to test his healed knee.
Aside from working his way back, he will also learn some best practices from fellow tight ends like George Kittle and Travis Kelce.
Make-Or-Break Season For Tonyan
The Packers tried to acquire Las Vegas Raiders tight end Darren Waller.
Like Tonyan, he is also coming off an injury.
If the Packers pulled off that transaction, Tonyan might not be back in Green Bay.
Therefore, he must prove that he’s more than being a second option.
He might receive a generous offer from the Packers if he surpasses his 2020 numbers.
More importantly, he gets to stay long-term with the team that gave him a chance.
