San Antonio Spurs fans should be thrilled after they won the NBA Draft lottery, but not as much as the front office and ownership.
Having the chance to get Victor Wembanyama with that No. 1 pick could turn out to be a huge financial boost for the organization.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Wembanyama could add a whopping $500 million to the franchise’s estimated value.

Forbes currently values the Spurs at roughly $2 billion, so this player alone could boost the franchise’s value by 25%, which is insane on its own.
Wembanyama has the potential to be a once-in-a-lifetime kind of player, and the expectation is that he’ll be as good as LeBron James, Michael Jordan, or Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
The bar is obviously quite high for the French prospect, who boasts an unprecedented skill set and physical tools.
Having Wembanyama will guarantee multiple nationally-televised games for years to come, not to mention sold-out arenas and millions in partnerships and sponsors.
The Spurs have a long history of holding on to their franchise players for long, and Wembanyama also happened to grow up rooting for the organization, so he could be in Texas for a very, very long time.
Of course, no one knows how a prospect’s career will pan out, and there will always be injury concerns with a player like Wembanyama.
But if he turns out to be as good as expected, he could take the Spurs franchise back to the top for the better part of a decade, and we’re not talking just about basketball.
