The Minnesota Twins were dealt a tough blow on Thursday night when Carlos Correa was hit by two pitches and forced to exit their game against the Baltimore Orioles.
The expectation is that Correa will indeed land on the injured list.
However, this could potentially open the door for the Twins’ top prospect, shortstop Royce Lewis.
According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, this is what the Twins are planning on doing, calling up their former No. 1 Draft pick.
Lewis missed all of 2021 with a torn ACL in his right knee, but is hitting .310 with three home runs and 11 RBIs in Triple-A.

The Lewis Era Begins
With Correa out for the foreseeable future, the door has been opened for Lewis.
He now has a chance to prove his worth and show the Twins what he is capable of.
Even with Correa unavailable for what looks to be a decent amount of time, the Twins could still continue competing.
They’re still at the top of the AL Central with a 15-11 record.
Perhaps Lewis could provide a little spark for a team that could use it after losing several key players due to injuries.
Though he was out all of 2021, Lewis is healthy now and has a chance to make an impact on a Twins team that desperately needs to fill a hole.
The time has come for the Lewis era to begin in Minnesota.
He’ll have big shoes to fill, for sure.
But he’s a young and exciting player that the Twins are extremely high on.
We’ll see if he can burst onto the scene and provide this Twins ballclub with a much-needed spark with Correa out.
