Earlier in the season, New York Yankees fans were worried when uber-prospect Jasson Dominguez was hitting near the Mendoza line in Double-A.
He was assigned there to start the season as the Yanks hoped he could quickly figure out upper-minors pitching.
Prospects, however, require patience, especially if they are being tested at new, more difficult levels.
It took some time, but Dominguez has officially taken off.
In 105 games and 485 plate appearances, the “Martian” is slashing .244/.361/.395 with 14 home runs, 36 stolen bases, and a 111 wRC+ (100 is considered league-average performance).
Considering he was flirting with a .200 average a month ago, it’s a very solid season for the prospect.
Indeed, he has been much, much better in the last month or so.
“Since 7/7, Jasson Dominguez leads the Eastern League with 46 H and 14 SB (T-1st), while also ranking among the league leaders in TB (68, 2nd), R (23, 4th), RBI (23, 5th), 2B (8, T-5th), AVG (.336, 6th), OPS (.899, 7th), OBP (.403, 7th) and XBH (13, T-7th),” the Somerset Patriots, the Yankees’ Double-A affiliate (where Dominguez plays), tweeted.

It’s important to let prospects work through their struggles and make the necessary adjustments to succeed.
This process sometimes take a few days, but the most likely scenario dictates it takes weeks and often months.
Some prospects never figure out a way.
But Dominguez has shown time and time again that he is a special prospect.
He is very much capable of developing into a 20-40 hitter at peak, with passable defense at center field and good on-base skills.
The Yankees hope he can contribute to the MLB team sometime in 2024, and the odds of that happening are solid.
