In recent years, NFL teams have treated running backs as disposable and easy to replace.
Notably, that was the case with Todd Gurley.
He was one of the most dominant running backs in the game in his short-lived prime, and it wasn’t particularly close.
Then, his career took a big dive, and he was out of the league in almost no time.
That’s why it makes sense that the former star is making a case for one of his colleagues to win NFL MVP this season.
“I’m always ridin’ with Saquon [Barkley]. I hope he get the MVP, for sure,” Gurley said, via TMZ Sports.

Truth be told, Barkley has a strong case.
The Philadelphia Eagles star is leading the league in almost all run-related stats this season.
The only reason he’s not leading in rushing touchdowns is that the Eagles often turn to quarterback Jalen Hurts at the goal line with their signature “Tush Push” play.
However, as dominant as Barkley has been, he’s not likely to take home the award.
The NFL MVP award has been given to a quarterback almost exclusively, especially over the past couple of decades.
With Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen also having a season for the ages, Barkley will most likely have to settle for the Offensive Player of the Year award.
Running backs have to block, run routes, protect the quarterback and catch passes, and their bodies endure a physical beating like few other players.
If that’s not valuable, then what is?
