It’s curious how the team with the second-best record in the American League can be among the worst in the junior circuit over the last few weeks.
The New York Yankees are 72-45, but they have dropped 11 of their last 14 games.
It’s incredible how a team that was so good for three months seemingly forgot how to play ball.
To be fair, they have been hit hard by injuries, especially in their bullpen.
Relievers Chad Green and Michael King are lost for the season, while Jonathan Loaisiga, Aroldis Chapman, Clay Holmes, Ron Marinaccio, and other prominent names are currently on the injured list or were recently on it.
Starter Luis Severino is currently out, too.
Perhaps a bigger issue is the pathetic showing from the offense in recent games.
“Yankees last 7 Games: 9 runs, 35 Hits. This is the first time in franchise history the Yankees have had any 7-game stretch with 9 or fewer runs and 35 or fewer hits,” MLB statistician Katie Sharp tweeted.

A Franchise-Worst Stretch
The fact that the Yankees haven’t had a stretch like this on offense throughout history speaks loudly about the extent of their struggles.
In their last seven contests, they are scoring barely over one run per game.
Who can expect to win a game while scoring just one run?
The Yankees are currently fielding too many offensive liabilities: Aaron Hicks, Miguel Andujar, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, and even Josh Donaldson are getting way more at-bats than they currently deserve.
The organization finally took a step in the right direction by calling up infield prospect Oswaldo Cabrera.
More moves are needed, though.
Can the Yankees start winning before it’s too late?
It will largely depend on whether the offense can rebound.
